Hello, All!
Huge apologies for the lack of posts or episodes. As I mentioned in the July show, my living situation has altered quite a bit and I am now crammed more firmly into the closet than I was last year.
When my husband and I finished college in June, we had to move. Not only were we living in college housing, but we also felt that a different area might present us with more employment opportunities. Being poor, recently graduated, college students, we looked at our bank accounts and realized that we had enough money to either move or rent an apartment. We chose to move, and are now living in a room in my grandparents' attic while we find jobs and accumulate enough cash for a place of our own.
My grandparents are kind, lovely people and I don't know what we'd be doing at this point if it weren't for their generosity. They are also conservative Seventh-day Adventists. Since I'm living in their house, my ability to record, edit, and upload shows is significantly hampered. There are very few hours during the week in which I could record and I don't have my own line for internet. Thus, the slow-down with the show.
With all of that said, I want to assure you all that TBC is not, I repeat, not going to disappear. This is not a farewell post. However, it may be several more weeks yet before I manage to pull the next episode together. The exciting news is that my next episode promises to be truly thought-provoking.
I was browsing the New Age/Spirituality section of a Border's Books one day when something caught my eye. It was a book by Gus diZerega, a Gardenarian Priest, called Pagans and Chrisitans: The Personal Spiritual Experience. As you probably know by now, interfaith discussion is something that I believe to be immensely important. I also find it to be spiritually and intellectually rewarding. You can imagine how excited I was.
I read the book and shared it with a Christian friend (here at TBC, he likes to go by Nighteyes) which started a conversation of excellent depth and insight. As it occurs to us, Christianity and Wicca/NeoPagan traditions in general, do have a lot of similarities and differences. The problem is that so few people in either group focus on the really important ones.
Using diZerega's book as an inspiration, Nighteyes and I will be recording a show in which we hope to shed light on a few of those points and maybe answer some listener questions as well. Our goal is to create an honest, respectful dialogue and find some common ground.
As always, I would love for all of you listeners out there to take part. So, if you have a question for Nighteyes about Christian beliefs or particularly about Christian beliefs as they relate to NeoPagan issues, please leave a comment on this post or e-mail me at thebroomcloset@hotmail.com. As always, questions are welcome from any religious perspective.
Thank you for all of your support! I love seeing the comments here on the blog and reading the e-mails that I get from you. Without all of you, this show wouldn't be here.
Bright Blessings!

Yay!
I can't wait for your future episodes- I think everybody understands!
I'm working on my new blog/podcast. Which was actually my old one. But is now my new one. It confuses me too. . .
Brightest Blessings to you!
Hey Lady! Glad to see you are still alive and kicking :) I can sympathize with your situation. I am living at home again to save a few bucks for my upcoming marriage. Anyway, I come from a very staunch French Catholic family... It is better if I keep my mouth shut and my practice relatively low key. Sucks doesn't it?
Great to see you posted. I knew you were in the process of moving and that is why you hadn't posted a cast. I am looking forward to the next one. :)
I miss your podcasts and I am glad to hear that you will be back when your circumstances improve.
Good luck with everything and I look forward to your next podcast.
Blessings,
Celestite
This sounds like it will be a great show, I'm really looking forward to it. Will you be discussing Christian-Wicca at all? I think you've expressed your opinions on it before, but two heads are better than one as they say! Good to hear from you and good luck with the job hunting!
Love,
Araceli
Hi there!
Just found your podcast. Mine started as a podcast in September, but I've been doing a pagan radio program on WSCA-LP in Portsmouth, NH for a year or so. I had been doing a program called Eros Radio, but I changed the format to a pagan program last year.
So, I've been listening to the various pagan podcasts on the web, and hooking up with the various podkin. I found yours, and really hope that you can come back with another program soon.
As far as the broom closet, I understand the need to maintain family relationships. When you were discussing filial piety, I suppose that keeping a within the closet is quite an example of that principle. Commandment 5A would read "Nor shalt thou express beliefs to thy parents that would cause them extreme distress".
Being transgendered, I had to come out in many ways. There are some things that I simply couldn't keep from my parents, whether or not they would be accepting. As a Pagan though, I'm also a minister, and have done a number of public ceremonies and rituals. It's really tough for me to be closeted, and while I haven't come out and said to my parents "Mom, Dad, You know the whole transgendered thing? Well, on top of that, I'm a witch too." But, I don't hide my jewelry. They know that I'm a minister, though they haven't asked what church.
On the other hand, they don't ask me to say grace at holiday dinners anymore. They aren't stupid, but over the years, we've come to accept the "don't ask, don't tell" policy between us.
So, thanks for your show ... I hope to hear you back soon.

Hey there!
I have just recently stumbled upon your podcast and have to say I love it. I cannot wait for the new podcast as it resonates strongly in me. I have recently begun to search in my faith and religion. I believe in God and Jesus and was brought up Lutheran (sort of). We never really went to church much. I felt a bit lost when it came to going to church and listening to the pastor speak. I did not feel truly connected to God in this way. I have always been drawn to nature and energies. Which is not focused on in any church I've visited. I have always been drawn to other religions and finding out about them. I work with a practicing Wiccan who is in the closet except for with me. She has been great and explained what it is and how she practices. She's also borrowed some books to me. I am looking for a balance between my belief in God and the ideals of Pegan/Wiccan religion. I like how it is nature inspired and more involved then the sit in the pew and listen church. And I feel that it is calling to me in some way. I am looking forward to this next podcast as I feel it is exactly what I am searching for.
